Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The Internationalisation team builds the platform that helps Stripe products work naturally across languages and markets. We create and operate the infrastructure that enables Stripe teams to localize product interfaces, services, and written communications while delivering consistent, high-quality experiences to users around the world.
We work closely with our sister Localization team and its language experts, as well as with product and service engineering teams integrating localized content. Together, we combine engineering, automation, and linguistic expertise to help Stripe build products that feel native to each market.
What you’ll do
You will design, implement, and maintain Stripe’s internationalisation platform at scale, including the developer and user experiences around it. You’ll help teams continuously localize their products while improving the quality, speed, reliability, and efficiency of Stripe’s localization processes.
This role combines backend and platform engineering with emerging LLM technology. Depending on the project, you may build end-to-end functionality for internal customers, evolve production LLM systems, develop quality-evaluation capabilities, improve platform reliability and observability, or lead migrations from legacy localization infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and build internationalisation infrastructure that supports diverse content surfaces, including backend services, product interfaces, and written communications.
- Integrate localization into Stripe’s software-development and content-production workflows, enabling teams to ship translated experiences continuously and safely.
- Build and maintain integrations with translation-management systems, LLM services and external localization providers.
- Evolve Stripe’s existing production LLM capabilities to improve translation quality, market relevance, turnaround time, and operational efficiency.
- Develop automated quality checks and human-evaluation workflows that combine LLM-driven automation with expert linguistic judgment.
- Maintain a high bar for reliability through effective testing, monitoring, alerting, and operational processes.
- Own ambiguous, high-impact initiatives end to end—from research and experimentation through implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- Strong coding skills in any programming language (we understand new languages can be learned on the job so our interview process is language agnostic)
- Experience developing reliable infrastructure, platform, or backend-service solutions.
- Strong product judgment and a commitment to building high-quality user and developer experiences.
- Ability to own ambiguous work end to end and make progress through research, experimentation, and iteration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience building or operating production LLM or machine-learning systems.
- Experience evaluating LLM output or combining automated systems with expert human review.
- Familiarity with internationalisation, localization, translation, or content-management workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD systems, developer platforms, or workflow infrastructure.
- Backend engineering experience building services using programming languages such as Java, Ruby, or Go.
- Experience building internal platforms that ultimately support customer-facing products.
